November

Tots Sants (1st and 2nd November)

The ‘Tots Sants’ day, and especially the day of the Lates, the population moves to the cemeteries in order to visit the graves of the ancestors, adorning them with flowers and arranging their outer look. This is basicly an urban habit, because some years ago the cemeteries of the villages were on the same side of the church and the people were able to visit them frecuently. This is a verifiable fact in the populations of mountain at the moment. In short, it is a day of remembrance for those relatives who are dead.

The night of Tots Sants, from the 31 st October at 1st November, the population organize several collective ‘castanyades’ or chestnut parties and some community meals based on chestnuts, ‘panellets’ or small marzipans round cake, sweet potatoes and other fruits of the period which are celebrated with the family, friends and even at schools. Often the chestnuts and marzipans are accompanied with good sweet wine. The Castanyada is a community meeting that is often organized by town councils, cultural associations, groups of youngsters, residents associations, cultural entities, hiking centers, sport groups, etc.
