DG-ERIC (MiC) and University of Naples Federico II – DICEA

IN-Formazione is a project proposed by the Ministry of Culture (Directorate-General for Education, Research and Cultural Institutes – DGERIC), the University of Naples Federico II (Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering), and the European University Centre for Cultural Heritage (CUEBC) in Ravello. The initiative’s primary objective is to foster the exchange of knowledge and expertise among the various stakeholders involved in the restoration and enhancement of built cultural heritage, including with regard to its efficient reuse.

This initiative falls within the scope of the “Third Mission” and public engagement activities that Italian universities carry out in support of public administration, amidst a landscape of socio-economic transformation and the convergence of geopolitical, energy, and environmental crises.
In this context, within the scope of its institutional remit and in light of European guidelines, DGERIC publishes an annual Training Implementation Plan and, every three years, a plan for the training activities of the Ministry’s central and regional offices.
The goal is to leverage funds from the PNRR and the EU NextGeneration plan while adhering to the timelines and objectives of the ecological transition, and ensuring quality in design, execution, commissioning, and maintenance in accordance with the DNSH (Do No Significant Harm) principles.
All of this requires a synergistic effort by public authorities and supply chain stakeholders, involving the sharing of objectives, knowledge, and operational methodologies across the stages of decision-making and implementation, as well as the maintenance, enhancement, and public enjoyment of cultural heritage.
This collaborative and participatory process aims to define methodological guidelines by combining expertise and best practices, while involving stakeholders. The use of technology, digitalization, and computerization fosters the development and implementation of knowledge, establishing a platform for sharing results to assess the effectiveness of the actions taken.

The IN FORMAZIONE project is designed to unfold over time, with events taking place on a rotating, semi-annual basis.
The initial event in Ravello aimed to define the needs of supply chain participants and stakeholders.
The upcoming event—scheduled for a date yet to be determined—will synthesize the topics raised by showcasing best practices as well as projects that have been completed or are currently underway.

The event is aimed at all Ministry and public administration staff, as well as professionals such as architects (earning 6 professional training credits), engineers, and surveyors.
The conference took place in person on June 5 and 6, 2023, at the Villa Rufolo Auditorium in Ravello, with a live stream available at the “Maria Clara Lilli Di Franco” conference room at the Ministry of Culture (MiC) headquarters at Via Milano 76, Rome.
The event was broadcast live and subsequently made available on demand via the Foundation for the School of Cultural Heritage and Activities’ online training platform from July 3 to October 10, 2023.
