Description and services
Library
Since its founding, the Center has collected publications and unpublished documentation on cultural heritage, thanks primarily to generous donations from Italian and foreign experts and institutions. A specialized library in the sector was thus established.
The library currently contains over 8,000 book and documentary publications, including monographs, periodicals, and other materials.
The subjects included are closely linked to the Center’s activities: from the protection of tangible and intangible heritage to the conservation of intangible heritage, from research on ethical tourism to the management of complex systems such as UNESCO sites.
An important role in this book heritage is played by the “Vedovato Fund” – consisting of the magazine Studi Politici Internazionali (300 issues from 1934 to the current year), the Writings in honour of G. Vedovato, the African and Asian Studies which represent the most complete collection of texts and scientific contributions on international political issues – and the “Council of Europe Fund”, which includes 349 volumes with the results of the ordinary and extraordinary sessions of the Council.
The Library has a digital catalog that can be searched from the Center’s offices. Since 2009, the Center has been a member of the Naples SBN Network and is currently completing the transfer of its book holdings to the Network’s online catalog.
In 2003, thanks to agreements with the Salerno Superintendency of Cultural Heritage and Activities, the Center obtained the loan for use of the two rooms overlooking the Moorish cloister of Villa Rufolo, to expand the spaces dedicated to the library. In fact, after appropriate renovation work, the core of the Center’s book collection was transferred to the new premises. The new spaces, of considerable artistic value, have made it possible, in recent years, to host exhibitions, which have also allowed greater use of the library by the numerous visitors and experts who attend the Center’s activities and Villa Rufolo in any capacity.
La biblioteca del Centro partecipa alla rilevazione dell’Anagrafe Banca Dati delle Biblioteche curata dall’Istituto Centrale per il Catalogo Unico delle biblioteche italiane e per le informazioni bibliografiche – ICCU.
