The old lighthouse – wooden building 19.8 m high elevated in 1856


Traditional architecture – the household is composed by the house itself and some annexes such as the summer kitchen and the stable. Building materials are specific to the deltaic area: reed, wood, soil. Decoration consists in specific fretted motifs (sun rays, twigs) and the pillars’ capitals.


Traditional customs – Melanca/Malanca is an Ukrainean New Year custom, a carnival manifestation which purpose was to chase the evil spirits. Its significance is lost, only laugh and mirth remained. Romanians also practice this custom in the process of acculturation.
