On Friday, October 6, a workshop was held in the Villa Rufolo auditorium in Ravello to present the “Guidelines for the appropriate strengthening of historic buildings in seismic zones.” These guidelines were produced at the conclusion of the “LAReHBA project – Local Appropriate Rehabilitation of Historical Built-up Areas,” a research initiative supported by the “EUR-OPA Major Hazards” agreement and led by Prof. Ferruccio Ferrigni.
Mechthilde Fuhrer, Deputy Executive Secretary of the Agreement, representing the Council of Europe, and Alfonso Andria, President of the Ravello Centre, opened the introductory panel; this was followed by a presentation by Professor Fillitsa Karantoni of the University of Patras (Greece).
The workshop was organized in collaboration with the Order of Engineers of Salerno, whose president, Prof. Michele Brigante, coordinated and subsequently concluded the round table discussion on the topic “Improvement and repair of historic buildings: technical, regulatory, and professional issues.”
During the study day, traditional seismic-resistant construction and repair techniques were presented, along with their potential for reuse and their compatibility with current and emerging regulations.
