“Words and Images of the Landscape” is a project developed by a research group associated with the International PhD Program in the Science of the Book and Writing at the University for Foreigners of Perugia. The project operates at the intersection of theoretical and applied research, integrating theoretical insights and academic inquiry with outreach goals and the use of new technologies for knowledge creation and dissemination. The research aims to compile a curated corpus of 20th-century writers (both Italian and European) to capture the literary and cultural representations of the landscape found in their works. Its ultimate objective is to create a multimedia product—combining text and visuals or audio and visuals—that integrates literary descriptions with visual documentation, designed for distribution via on line channels.

On May 31, the project’s progress was presented during a meeting organized by the University for Foreigners of Perugia in collaboration with CUEBC, as part of the project series “Orizzonti: Ricomporre i frammenti della memoria nel segno della contemporaneità” (Horizons: Reassembling the Fragments of Memory in a Contemporary Context). Participants included:

Stefania Giannini, Rector of the University for Foreigners of Perugia; Alfonso Andria, President of the European University Centre for Cultural Heritage; Salvatore Claudio La Rocca, ORIZZONTI Project Leader; and Massimo Pistacchi (Director of the Central Institute for Sound and Audiovisual Heritage), who spoke on “Italian Sound Horizons through the Collections of the Central Institute for Sound and Audiovisual Heritage.” Subsequently, the following speakers took the floor, in this order: Giovanna Zaganelli (Coordinator of the International PhD Program in the Science of the Book and Writing), presenting the research project “Words and Images of the Landscape”; Massimo Lucarelli (Université de Savoie-Chambéry) on “The Landscape in Ungaretti’s Poetry”; Biancamaria Bruno (Director of *Lettera Internazionale*) on “Landscape between Nature and Culture”; and finally, Gianfranco Bogliari (University for Foreigners of Perugia), who presented “Readings of Texts by Selected Authors Accompanied by Image Projections.”
