The “GreenHeritage” project aimed to develop a holistic, innovative, and inclusive approach to the direct and indirect impacts of climate change (CC) on intangible cultural heritage (ICH). The project sought to devise innovative tools and methodologies capable of fostering adaptive and systemic approaches to effectively manage climate change. Through “GreenHeritage,” the promoters aimed to highlight the looming threat of climate change and its direct and indirect impact on all aspects of European cultural heritage. It also served as an urgent call for collective action. The project was implemented in five European countries (Belgium, Greece, Italy, Latvia, and Spain) and yielded the following results:
• A methodology for the management, conservation, and protection of intangible cultural heritage against climate change, based on a needs analysis across EU countries, starting with the project partners.
• An interactive map showing examples of the areas and regions in Europe most at risk, where climate change has begun to have a negative impact on various types of intangible cultural heritage.
• A blended learning program on intangible cultural heritage and climate change, consisting of four online modules and four transnational in-person workshops, aimed at PhD candidates, researchers, administrators, and professionals.
• A micro-credential program on intangible cultural heritage and climate change, consisting of four online modules aimed at a broader audience.
• 5 roundtables and a final conference that brought together scientists, researchers, community leaders, and policymakers.
• 5 strategic documents and a manual on the progress regarding the impact of intangible cultural heritage and climate change at national and EU levels, including key project results and recommendations for policy change.
• A long-term action plan that ensures the transferability of the project results.Download the brochure
