| GO TO ROMENIAN VERSION

The perspective of local traditions in Murighiol is characterized by a synthesis of Dobrudja as an inter-ethnical zone. Romanians, Lipovans, Ukraineans, Turks, Tartars are living together. Each kept its language, customs and traditional objects.

Life together determined the development of a local architecture based on similarities. Identification of any difference between ethnical types is not possible since the period of 1920. The household of Murighiol is similar with that specific to the zone: the dwelling and annexes with their functional role depending on the daily occupations. Building materials and techniques are reed, wood, cob and bricks cob, small percent of rock). Houses gable presents decorations which motifs send either to Slav mythology or to the inhabitants’ basic occupations (mermaid, fish, sun rays, flower, twig).

Life together of many ethnical types determined a segmentary development and practice of the occupations. The main occupation has been practiced more by Ukraineans and Lipovans and less by Romanians. Turks and Tartars practiced commerce.

The different ethnical segments of Murighiol conserved their cultural identity but reciprocally borrowed life aspects (tools, occupations, clothes). This fact was generated by the life together in the same habitat and by the common participation to the cultural and social events.

Regarding the folk art, Romanians and Ukraineans use the carpets and towels loom woven. Turkish and Tartars textures are inherited due to the fact that these people haven’t practiced any folk art occupation since they came in this area.

Each ethnical segment has kept its traditional customs: Turkish -Tartars burial, Romanian and Ukraineans wedding and carol-singing. There is a very interesting Ukrainean New Year custom named Melanca consisting in a carnival game based on disguising. Verse told to the guest wish a new happy and rich year. Families with old people celebrate Christmas and New Year in old style (Christmas on 1st of January and New Year on 14th January).
