Most of the inhabitants of this locality are Lipovans. Their culture can be seen in each ethnographical aspect of the village.

Traditional architecture is specific: the household is composed by the house itself and annexes. Annexes are disposed either in line with the house or behind it.

The dwelling is perpendicular on the road. The short side with the veranda is placed directly in the street. The fence begins with this veranda. This particular placement is a specific Lipovan architectural feature.

Building materials and techniques are specific for the zone: reed, soil (cob and bricks cob) and wood. Lipovans are famous for their covering with reed technique.

The decoration of the house is made by fretting boards. The patterns are specific Lipovan and send to Slavs myths, but nowadays the inhabitants don’t make any connection between the decorations with these myths.

Other specific elements are the Lipovan bathroom, sauna type and “lijanca” – an original heating system consisting of a soil bad built near the stove.

The main traditional occupation is fishing. Lipovan gastronomy has its own place in the gastronomy puzzle of the region. Beside this, land cultivation and breeding are practiced, but their importance in the village economy is not so significant.

Traditional costume reminds the old elements brought by Lipovans from central Russia and point out the high degree of domestic industry dissolution specific for Russia of XIX century.

Regarding the traditional customs, the winter ones keep with preponderance specific elements. Lipovans celebrate Christmas on 1st of January and New Year on 14th of January. Christmas carol-singing begins in the first day of Christmas feast, after the morning mass and it is prolonged 3 days, meaning the entire time of the celebration. The songs have only religion content.

Another important feast is the church festival, on 14th October, where Lipovans from all the other localities come. The ceremony is well kept both the liturgical one and that which follows the mass.
